| Richard R. Johnson | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Richard R. | ||
| "Dik" Johnson, who died February 25, 2011, at the age of 68; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Richard Johnson was born October 6, 1942, in | ||
| Cheboygan, Michigan; he served with honor in the United States | ||
| Navy for four years aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in | ||
| industrial education from Central Michigan University; he moved | ||
| to Corpus Christi in 1976 and soon began a career at the Corpus | ||
| Christi Army Depot, where he held several important positions, | ||
| including security chief and computer chief; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was active in numerous organizations | ||
| devoted to representing the interests of people with | ||
| disabilities, including the Corpus Christi Army Depot | ||
| Individuals with Disabilities Program Committee and the Texas | ||
| Governor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was recognized numerous times for his | ||
| outstanding performance both at work and as a volunteer, and | ||
| March 15, 1989, was proclaimed Richard Johnson Day in Corpus | ||
| Christi in recognition of his dedication and service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and determination, he | ||
| gave generously to others, and his family and friends will | ||
| continue to live with the cherished memories of his life and his | ||
| many achievements; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family and friends of Richard R. Johnson; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Richard Johnson. | ||
