SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 481
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Best of the Basin BBQ Championship as a Texas State
Barbecue Championship competition; and
WHEREAS, This exciting new annual event is being held March
22 and 23, 2013, in Midland and is sanctioned by the Kansas City
Barbeque Society; it is the first cook-off in West Texas to be
endorsed by the society, which is the nation's largest barbecue
sanctioning body; and
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the Best of the Basin BBQ
Championship will go to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of
Midland; this exemplary organization, which is also a sponsor of
the event, plays a vital role in the community by providing
inspiration, guidance, and stability to more than 700 children
each year; and
WHEREAS, The championship will feature cooks from across
the country, notably from the hit television show BBQ Pitmasters;
among the scheduled events are the Friday Night Ribeye Throwdown
and judging and the primary competition in the barbecue
categories of brisket, ribs, chicken, pork, and people's choice
on Saturday; and
WHEREAS,
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors and participants in the
Best of the Basin BBQ Championship and extend to them best wishes
for a successful event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special occasion.
