| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| honor the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and its | ||
| dedicated volunteers for their exceptional efforts to reduce the | ||
| incidence of cancer in our state; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Recent data from the American Cancer Society | ||
| indicates that the cancer death rate in the United States has | ||
| dropped by 25 percent since its peak in 1991; increased | ||
| investment in cancer research has paid impressive dividends, and | ||
| the efforts of hardworking health care employees have saved the | ||
| lives of countless citizens across the nation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The volunteers of the American Cancer Society | ||
| Cancer Action Network work diligently to reduce cancer rates by | ||
| funding grassroots, lobbying, and media campaigns and advocating | ||
| for the use of early detection programs; the Cancer Prevention | ||
| and Research Institute of Texas promotes this mission by | ||
| accelerating cancer research, prioritizing clinical trials for | ||
| promising new medications, and helping to inform Texans about | ||
| cancer prevention strategies and services; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although great strides have been made in cancer | ||
| prevention and research, it is estimated that 1.6 million new | ||
| cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States in 2017; the | ||
| American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network volunteers engage | ||
| local communities and motivate leaders across the state to take | ||
| the proactive steps necessary in the very important battle | ||
| against cancer; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the volunteers of the American | ||
| Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and proclaim March 28, 2017, | ||
| American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Day at the State | ||
| Capitol; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the | ||
| organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
