| Richard Nelson Rose | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Arlington in mourning the loss of Richard Nelson | ||
| Rose, who died March 3, 2015, at the age of 68; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Rick Rose was born February 4, 1947, in Longview, | ||
| and he graduated from Copperas Cove High School; he began studies | ||
| at Tarleton State University, and he volunteered for service with | ||
| the United States Army in 1966; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sergeant Rose served with the 6th Special Forces | ||
| Group at Fort Bragg and was deployed as a platoon leader with the | ||
| Mobile Strike Force of the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam; | ||
| he served with honor and distinction, and in July of 1968, he was | ||
| awarded the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device for valor for his | ||
| actions against a Vietcong enemy force; and | ||
| WHEREAS, After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Rose pursued | ||
| a career in law enforcement, and for more than 30 years he served | ||
| Texas communities in a number of capacities; he was particularly | ||
| proud of his role as an investigator in the Betty Beets case, one of | ||
| the most famous murder cases in state history; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Rick Rose was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
| grandfather who cherished spending time with his family; he was | ||
| beloved by many, and he will long be remembered with deep admiration | ||
| by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Richard Nelson Rose; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Rick Rose. | ||
