SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 464
         WHEREAS, The members of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church
  in Houston are celebrating the 89th anniversary of the church's
  founding on May 24, 2015; and
 
         WHEREAS, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church was established
  on May 16, 1926, by the Reverend C. H. Miles Sr. and 11 founding
  members from Houston's historic Independence Heights neighborhood;
  the first church facility was constructed later that year on East
  40-1/2 Street, and generations of worshippers attended services
  there until 2008, when the building was damaged by Hurricane Ike;
  the church was then relocated to its current home on McGallion
  Road, where it remains an integral part of the local community; and
 
         WHEREAS, The church has surmounted numerous challenges
  over the course of its long history, and its congregants have
  benefited from the able leadership of many dedicated clergymen,
  including the Reverend Shannon T. Oliver, who leads the church
  today; and
 
         WHEREAS, For nearly nine decades, Calvary Missionary Baptist
  Church has served as a source of inspiration and guidance to many
  Houston residents, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the
  church at this special time in its history; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commemorate the 89th anniversary of Calvary
  Missionary Baptist Church and extend to its clergy and congregation
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard from the
  Texas Senate.
