| WHEREAS, Bob L. Townsend is completing his distinguished | ||
| 16-year tenure on the Richardson City Council in April 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, First elected in 2001, Bob Townsend was reelected | ||
| seven times in a row; he has served three terms as mayor pro tem, | ||
| and from 2011-2013, he was city mayor; in addition, he has been a | ||
| member of the Audit, Education, and Retail Committees and of the | ||
| Mayor's Office of International Business; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Townsend provided key support for a number of | ||
| major projects, among them Fire Station 6, the Eisemann Center | ||
| for the Performing Arts, the CityLine mixed-use development, and | ||
| renovations to the Heights and Huffhines Recreation Centers; | ||
| committed to improving transit, he was a crucial advocate for the | ||
| construction of five Dallas Area Rapid Transit rail stations, | ||
| four of them now complete, and he served on the Regional | ||
| Transportation Council and Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition; | ||
| moreover, he represented the city as a member of the North | ||
| Central Texas Council of Governments, Collin County Mayors, and | ||
| Metroplex Mayors Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Long active in the community, Mr. Townsend has | ||
| been an ex officio member of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce | ||
| Board and the Leadership Richardson Advisory Board; he further | ||
| served as president of the Southwest Richardson Homeowners | ||
| Association and the Richland Meadows Neighborhood Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Townsend was born in Oklahoma and attended | ||
| the University of Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State | ||
| University before going on to earn a master's degree from | ||
| Southern Methodist University; he was employed in management by | ||
| Texas Instruments for 37 years before his retirement in 1997; in | ||
| all his endeavors, he enjoys the support and encouragement of his | ||
| wife, Lynn, and he takes great pride in their three children, | ||
| seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of Richardson, Bob | ||
| Townsend has worked tirelessly in behalf of his fellow citizens, | ||
| and his outstanding contributions have made the city an even | ||
| better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby honor Bob L. Townsend for his exemplary | ||
| service on the Richardson City Council and congratulate him on | ||
| his retirement; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| Mr. Townsend as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
