| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| American College of Gastroenterology and medical centers | ||
| throughout the nation in observing the month of March 2017 as | ||
| Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Cancer respects no boundaries, and early | ||
| detection is key to the best possible outcomes; each year, | ||
| colorectal cancer awareness efforts are highlighted during the | ||
| month of March to promote regular cancer screenings and inform | ||
| the public about prevention and treatment options; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In preparation for this annual national awareness | ||
| campaign, the American College of Gastroenterology publishes a | ||
| colorectal cancer awareness toolkit that includes a wealth of | ||
| resources, tips, and downloadable materials for doctors to share | ||
| with patients, policymakers, and the media; this vital trove of | ||
| information stresses the importance of regular colonoscopy | ||
| screenings as a safe and highly effective method for early | ||
| detection and as a valuable tool for prevention as well; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Local health care groups host a number of | ||
| community outreach initiatives in March to raise awareness of | ||
| colorectal cancer, and clinics and cancer centers around the | ||
| country participate in National Dress in Blue Day to convey the | ||
| importance of regular screenings and to show support for patients | ||
| and survivors; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity | ||
| to educate the public and to connect patients with the resources | ||
| they need to make informed health care decisions that will help | ||
| them live long and healthy lives; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed to | ||
| Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month for their efforts on behalf of | ||
| patients and health care workers in Texas and around the nation | ||
| and extend to them best wishes for a successful 2017 awareness | ||
| campaign; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a | ||
| memento of this special month. | ||
