| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| welcome the citizens of Little Elm who are visiting Austin on the | ||
| occasion of Little Elm Day at the State Capitol in 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Little Elm is situated along the picturesque | ||
| northeast bank of Lake Lewisville, on land that was originally an | ||
| empresario grant by the Republic of Texas in 1841 and became part | ||
| of the Peters Colony; the town was established in 1844 by early | ||
| settler C. C. "Kit" King, who later became postmaster of the | ||
| first post office in Denton County; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The town was incorporated in 1966 and has since | ||
| experienced phenomenal expansion, growing from a small community | ||
| of 363 residents in 1970 to today's population of more than | ||
| 22,000; the town continues to grow, and since 2002, more than | ||
| 1,000 residential building permits have been issued every year; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The community retains an appealing small-town | ||
| atmosphere due to the careful planning and foresight of town | ||
| leaders, who have ensured that its growth is carefully managed | ||
| for the long-term benefit of all; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Residents of Little Elm enjoy the beautiful lake | ||
| setting and proximity to the conveniences of city life and can be | ||
| proud of both their hometown's historic heritage and its | ||
| prospects for the future; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Little Elm for their | ||
| many contributions to our state and extend to them best wishes | ||
| for a memorable Little Elm Day at the Texas Capitol; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the citizens of Little Elm as an expression of high regard from | ||
| the Texas Senate. | ||
