Bruce Anthony August Jr. | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Bruce Anthony August Jr., who died in | ||
April of 2023, at the age of 37; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bruce August Jr. was born in Galveston on October | ||
15, 1985, to the late Bruce August Sr. and Kathy August; | ||
determined from a young age, Bruce was a brilliant student with | ||
high aspirations to work in education and public policy; he | ||
earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from The | ||
University of Texas at Dallas and earned a master's degree in | ||
higher education administration from the University of North | ||
Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bruce was a natural leader and a trusted mentor to | ||
many; he dedicated himself to creating brighter futures for young | ||
scholars at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he had | ||
served as the director of the Multicultural Center since 2010 and | ||
where he was a doctoral student in public affairs; and | ||
WHEREAS, As the founding president of the Black Faculty and | ||
Staff Alliance at The University of Texas at Dallas, Bruce | ||
encouraged students to pursue knowledge and to seek | ||
opportunities for their intellectual and personal development; | ||
he served as the campus advisor to the Tau Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi | ||
Alpha Fraternity, and he was an active member of the Xi Tau Lambda | ||
Chapter of North Dallas; and | ||
WHEREAS, An inspiration to his colleagues, innumerable | ||
students, and his many friends, Bruce served the Texas | ||
Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education as director, | ||
board member, state conference cochair, and technology expert; a | ||
man of strong spiritual faith, Bruce attended One Community | ||
Church in Lewisville, where he was a loyal member of the | ||
congregation; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bruce was an outstanding mentor, educator, and | ||
friend and a source of light in the lives of those around him; he | ||
made a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of others, | ||
and his passion, courage, and wisdom will not be forgotten; he | ||
leaves behind memories that will be forever cherished by his many | ||
loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in his life; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Bruce Anthony August Jr.; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Bruce August Jr. | ||
