| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Galveston College on the occasion of its 50th | ||
| anniversary; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Galveston College was established in 1967 in the | ||
| building that formerly housed the Saint Mary's Orphanage; this | ||
| building is still a part of the campus and is now known as Moody | ||
| Hall; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since its founding, the college has grown to | ||
| become one of the leading community colleges in the state; the | ||
| institution is known for its exceptional facilities, attractive | ||
| campus, and commitment to educational excellence; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Galveston College is nationally recognized for | ||
| its Universal Access tuition assistance program that benefits | ||
| students from all educational backgrounds; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, staff, | ||
| and students of Galveston College on their commitment to | ||
| excellence in education and extend to all best wishes for a | ||
| memorable 50th anniversary celebration; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the college as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
