| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Altrusa International, Incorporated, on the 100th | ||
| anniversary of its founding; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Altrusa International was founded in 1917 in | ||
| Nashville, Tennessee, to fill the need for civic organizations | ||
| for women; the mission of this global volunteer service | ||
| organization is to promote better communities through | ||
| leadership, partnership, and service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Altrusa members share human and financial | ||
| resources in their communities, support nongovernmental | ||
| organizations through foundation grants, and provide | ||
| humanitarian relief through multiple avenues; in 2016 alone, | ||
| members around the world engaged in more than a million hours of | ||
| volunteer service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This outstanding organization works tirelessly to | ||
| support and promote women, but membership is open to all; rather | ||
| than seeking to place blame for the lack of recognition and | ||
| opportunities for women in business, the organization aims to | ||
| awaken women to their responsibilities and possibilities and to | ||
| highlight their accomplishments; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The many service areas Altrusa has focused on | ||
| through the years include literacy, HIV/AIDS, and disaster | ||
| relief; it is truly fitting that Altrusa receive special | ||
| recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Altrusa International, | ||
| Incorporated, on its commitment to humanitarian service and | ||
| extend to its members best wishes for memorable 100th anniversary | ||
| celebrations; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this | ||
| exemplaryorganizationasanexpressionofesteemfromtheTexasSenate. | ||
