SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 421
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Captain Earl Ross Pence, who retired February 28, 2013,
from the Giddings Police Department after more than a decade of
outstanding service; and
WHEREAS, Captain Pence began his career in law enforcement
as a deputy in the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office in 1985;
several years later, he served a stint as an undercover officer
with the Austin Regional Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force and rejoined
the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office in 1991; and
WHEREAS, He joined the Giddings Police Department in 2001
and rose through the ranks to become captain in 2007; throughout
his lengthy service, he played an invaluable role in establishing
and maintaining connections between the community and the police
department; and
WHEREAS, A man of courage and tenacity, Captain Pence was
dedicated to making Giddings a safer place in which to live,
work, and raise a family, and he consistently showed solid
judgment in dealing with the unique challenges of law enforcement
duty; over the course of his career, he was the recipient of
numerous awards and honors; and
WHEREAS, A well-known public servant, he is respected and
admired by his colleagues in the field of law enforcement and by
area citizens, and his presence at the Giddings Police Department
will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Captain Earl Ross Pence on his
exceptional career as a law enforcement officer and on his many
contributions to the Giddings Police Department and extend to him
best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
