| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Diocese of Tyler for its many contributions to the | ||
| people of Northeast Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Diocese of Tyler was established in 1986 by an | ||
| apostolic bull issued by Pope John Paul II; its 33 counties are | ||
| served by 51 parishes, 19 missions, and three pastoral centers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since its founding, the diocese has offered | ||
| invaluable support and spiritual guidance to parishioners; under | ||
| the exemplary leadership of Bishop Joseph E. Strickland since | ||
| 2012, its 79 active priests and 102 permanent deacons have | ||
| continued to play an integral role in the life of the community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Attending to the spiritual, physical, and | ||
| educational needs of citizens regardless of their religious | ||
| affiliation, the diocese supports four Catholic hospitals and | ||
| eight centers for social services, and its seven Catholic schools | ||
| work diligently to fully develop each student's moral, | ||
| intellectual, social, and physical gifts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Diocese of Tyler has contributed greatly to | ||
| the fabric of life in the region, and it is fitting that it | ||
| receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the Diocese of Tyler on its commitment | ||
| to serving others and extend to its clergy and parishioners best | ||
| wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the diocese as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
