SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Cameron Lions Club on the grand occasion of the
  organization's 100th anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Chartered on September 26, 1923, the Cameron
  Lions Club represents District 2-S3 for Lions Clubs
  International, which is the world's largest service club
  organization and includes 1.4 million members in more than 47,000
  clubs worldwide; and
         WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Cameron Lions Club has served
  and strengthened the city of Cameron and its residents through
  numerous service projects and philanthropic activities and has
  supported both the efforts of the Lions Clubs International and
  those of such local organizations as the Cameron Boy Scouts of
  America and the Cameron Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Drawing on Helen Keller's 1925 call to be "knights
  of the blind in a crusade against darkness," Lions Clubs have
  long been committed to promoting vision care and to providing
  resources and support for those affected by blindness or vision
  challenges; the Cameron Lions Club has steadfastly upheld this
  mission by providing vision screenings and eyeglasses to the
  students of Cameron Independent School District and to children
  in surrounding areas; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the Cameron Lions Club have also
  devoted themselves to enhancing public recreation and community
  beautification in Cameron, and members are donating $200,000 to
  the city for the redevelopment of one of the city's parks, which
  will be renamed in honor of the club; and
         WHEREAS, The Cameron Lions Club has served the community
  with great dedication, and over the past century, its members
  have helped to nurture an environment of altruism and service in
  the city of Cameron; it is indeed fitting that this outstanding
  organization receive special recognition for its exemplary work;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the members of
  the Cameron Lions Club on the club's 100th anniversary and on
  their many outstanding contributions to the community and extend
  to all best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Cameron Lions Club in honor of this special occasion.
