| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Mary Lee Feitsam Najvar, a beloved Texan and Shiner | ||
| resident, who earned the distinction of becoming the youngest | ||
| licensed mortician in the State of Texas when she was 21 years | ||
| old; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born on February 10, 1924, Mary Lee Feitsam grew | ||
| up in Weimar, Texas; she moved to Shiner with her family, and her | ||
| mother purchased the Shiner Gazette newspaper; she graduated | ||
| with honors from Saint Ludmila's Academy in Shiner, and she | ||
| studied at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She went on to study at the Landig College of | ||
| Mortuary Science in Houston, and she completed two years of | ||
| apprenticeship with the Charles Hanavan Funeral Parlor in San | ||
| Antonio; she earned a perfect score on her final tests, and at the | ||
| age of 21, she passed the Texas State Board of Embalmers exam and | ||
| became the youngest person in the state to earn a mortician's | ||
| license; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This gracious and accomplished lady has been | ||
| blessed with a rewarding life full of memorable experiences, and | ||
| she has been privileged to witness historic events that many | ||
| people only read about in history books; she is now 97 years old, | ||
| and there is much to be learned from the wisdom she has gained | ||
| over the years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She is indeed deserving of special recognition | ||
| for a life well lived and for her notable achievement of becoming | ||
| the state's youngest licensed mortician; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, hereby honor Mary Lee Feitsam Najvar as a cherished | ||
| member of her family and community and a treasured citizen of the | ||
| Lone Star State; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
