| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Charles J. Barnett for his distinguished career in | ||
| health care leadership and for his numerous professional | ||
| achievements; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Charles Barnett is a Fellow of the American | ||
| College of Healthcare Executives and a beloved Austin resident; | ||
| he recently stepped down as executive chairman of the board of | ||
| Seton Healthcare Family after having served for many years as the | ||
| organization's president and chief executive officer; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under Mr. Barnett's leadership the Seton Healthcare | ||
| Family grew from a $200 million to a $2 billion organization; in | ||
| addition, the organization championed fund-raising for the | ||
| construction of Dell Children's Medical Center and led the | ||
| development of a protocol for delivering babies that significantly | ||
| reduced birth-trauma events, for which Seton earned the Ernest | ||
| Amory Codman Award; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 2009, Mr. Barnett was named Austinite of the | ||
| Year for his role in negotiating the relationship between Seton | ||
| and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School; this | ||
| ultimately enabled the university system to launch its new | ||
| medical school in Austin; and | ||
| WHEREAS, His professional successes have gained recognition | ||
| on the local and national levels; he was named the 2013 Legacy | ||
| Award Winner for Best Chief Executive Officer by the Austin | ||
| Business Journal, and in 2005, he was the recipient of the | ||
| Distinguished Service Award from the American Heart Association | ||
| for his leadership during the influx of patients in the aftermath | ||
| of Hurricane Rita; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett stepped down from his leadership role | ||
| at Seton on February 13, 2015, and he began a new chapter in his | ||
| career with Cognitive Scale, a cloud technology company, where he | ||
| is helping to develop innovative health care products; he will be | ||
| missed at the Seton Healthcare Family, but his leadership has | ||
| left a lasting imprint that will benefit the system for years to | ||
| come; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Charles J. Barnett for his | ||
| outstanding accomplishments in the field of health care and his | ||
| invaluable contributions to the Seton Healthcare Family and | ||
| extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
