WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
join the citizens of Hewitt and Texans across the state in | ||
celebrating January 25, 2011, as Hewitt Day at the State Capitol; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The City of Hewitt can trace its roots to a | ||
community established in 1882 as a station along the Missouri, | ||
Kansas, and Texas Railroad; the township surrounding the station | ||
was later purchased by businessman John A. Warren, who named it | ||
after railroad executive George A. Hewitt; and | ||
WHEREAS, Situated on the rich Blackland Prairie, Hewitt | ||
for many years served as the hub of a thriving farming community | ||
that produced corn, cattle, and cotton, which was shipped to | ||
market by wagon or rail; and | ||
WHEREAS, Hewitt was incorporated in 1960 and soon became | ||
one of the fastest-growing towns in the area; known for its | ||
abundance of economic opportunity, its outstanding schools, and | ||
its real sense of community, it was named by Money magazine in | ||
2007 as one of the top 100 places to live in the United States; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, Hewitt continues to grow and thrive as an | ||
exceptional place in which to live, work, and raise a family; its | ||
people can take great pride in its history and progress as they | ||
celebrate its bright future; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Hewitt on their many | ||
contributions to the legacy of McLennan County and our state and | ||
extend to them best wishes for a memorable Hewitt Day at the State | ||
Capitol; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
