| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Judge Raul Vasquez for his 29 years of exemplary public | ||
| service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Currently serving his third term on the bench of | ||
| the 111th District Court, Judge Vasquez began his judicial career | ||
| when he was elected as justice of the peace in 1981; he served as | ||
| a Webb County court at law judge from 1987 to 1998; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A 1972 graduate of Martin High School in Laredo, | ||
| Judge Vasquez earned his law degree from the University of | ||
| Houston Law Center; he served on the faculty of the Texas College | ||
| for New Judges and was a board member of the Texas Center for the | ||
| Judiciary, Incorporated; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Vasquez is active in numerous professional | ||
| and community organizations; he has served as chairman of the | ||
| board of the Webb County Community Supervision and Corrections | ||
| Department and the Webb County Auditor's Department; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Vasquez is committed to helping troubled | ||
| and disadvantaged youths and is a founding member of several | ||
| organizations dedicated to helping them, including the Laredo | ||
| Youth Conference and the Children's Coalition; he has received | ||
| many awards for his service, including the Crime Stoppers Alfa | ||
| Award and the League of United Latin American Citizens Tejano | ||
| Achiever Award; he is truly deserving of recognition for his many | ||
| contributions to his profession and his community; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Judge Raul Vasquez on his 29 years of | ||
| outstanding public service and extend to him best wishes for | ||
| continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
