| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great | ||
| pleasure in recognizing El Paso student Joella Methola, who | ||
| recently received a 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Award for | ||
| her exemplary volunteerism; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This conscientious 12-year-old is among nine | ||
| other Distinguished Finalists in Texas this year; nationwide, | ||
| more than 28,000 young people participated in this year's | ||
| program, which is designed to encourage and acknowledge good | ||
| works by America's youths; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Despite her age, Joella has already established a | ||
| track record as a volunteer; since 2011, the eighth-grader has | ||
| helped raise more than $13,000 for worthy causes, including | ||
| relief efforts on behalf of Haitian earthquake victims; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Joella is also a diligent servant in her hometown | ||
| of El Paso; she serves on the board of her student council at | ||
| WHEREAS, For her generosity, Joella received an engraved | ||
| bronze medallion; these annual honors are sponsored by | ||
| Prudential Financial, Incorporated, in partnership with the | ||
| National Association of Secondary School Principals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Such national honors remind us that the success | ||
| and vitality of our communities, our state, and our nation depend | ||
| in great measure on the dedication of young people like Joella; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
| 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Joella Methola as a | ||
| Distinguished Finalist in the 18th annual Prudential Spirit of | ||
| Community Awards and extend to her sincere best wishes in all her | ||
| future endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| Joella as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
