SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 381
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Cleo Weldon Bay Sr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Killeen in mourning the loss of Cleo Weldon Bay Sr.,
  who died July 24, 2016, at the age of 96; and
         WHEREAS, Cleo Bay was born on June 21, 1920, along Cowhouse
  Creek in Bell County; he was a prominent businessman and an
  active civic leader in Killeen, and he was admired for his many
  contributions to the community; and
         WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Bay served with
  distinction as a tank commander in the European Theater, and he
  earned a Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious achievements while
  in combat; after the war, he returned to Killeen to join his father
  and brothers in operating a chain of local grocery stores; and
         WHEREAS, Continuing on a path of business leadership,
  Mr. Bay opened his first automotive dealership, Bay Long
  Oldsmobile GMC, in 1968, and in the ensuing years, he became a
  prominent leader in the Killeen automotive market; among his many
  endeavors, he opened Bay Long Toyota, Killeen Chrysler Plymouth,
  and Cleo Bay Honda, and he maintained involvement in several of
  his dealerships until 2012; and
         WHEREAS, An enthusiastic servant of the community, Mr. Bay
  was involved with numerous civic and charitable organizations;
  he was proud to have served as president of the Killeen Chamber of
  Commerce, and he played an integral role in bringing Central
  Texas College to the area; in 2010, he was honored with a Golden
  Deeds Award by the Exchange Club of Killeen for his many civic
  contributions and his commitment to the community; and
         WHEREAS, A loving husband and father and a highly respected
  member of the community, Cleo Bay was admired by many, and he
  leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
  were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Cleo Weldon Bay Sr.; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Cleo Weldon Bay Sr.
