Cleo Weldon Bay Sr. | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Killeen in mourning the loss of Cleo Weldon Bay Sr., | ||
who died July 24, 2016, at the age of 96; and | ||
WHEREAS, Cleo Bay was born on June 21, 1920, along Cowhouse | ||
Creek in Bell County; he was a prominent businessman and an | ||
active civic leader in Killeen, and he was admired for his many | ||
contributions to the community; and | ||
WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Bay served with | ||
distinction as a tank commander in the European Theater, and he | ||
earned a Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious achievements while | ||
in combat; after the war, he returned to Killeen to join his father | ||
and brothers in operating a chain of local grocery stores; and | ||
WHEREAS, Continuing on a path of business leadership, | ||
Mr. Bay opened his first automotive dealership, Bay Long | ||
Oldsmobile GMC, in 1968, and in the ensuing years, he became a | ||
prominent leader in the Killeen automotive market; among his many | ||
endeavors, he opened Bay Long Toyota, Killeen Chrysler Plymouth, | ||
and Cleo Bay Honda, and he maintained involvement in several of | ||
his dealerships until 2012; and | ||
WHEREAS, An enthusiastic servant of the community, Mr. Bay | ||
was involved with numerous civic and charitable organizations; | ||
he was proud to have served as president of the Killeen Chamber of | ||
Commerce, and he played an integral role in bringing Central | ||
Texas College to the area; in 2010, he was honored with a Golden | ||
Deeds Award by the Exchange Club of Killeen for his many civic | ||
contributions and his commitment to the community; and | ||
WHEREAS, A loving husband and father and a highly respected | ||
member of the community, Cleo Bay was admired by many, and he | ||
leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who | ||
were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Cleo Weldon Bay Sr.; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Cleo Weldon Bay Sr. | ||
