	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 38
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
	recognize Omar Lucio for his outstanding career in law
	enforcement and his contributions to area citizens while serving
	as Cameron County sheriff; and
	WHEREAS, An esteemed San Benito citizen, Omar earned
	degrees in criminal justice and sociology from Pan American
	University, and he is a graduate of the United States Federal
	Bureau of Investigations Academy; he began his law enforcement
	career in Harlingen; and
	WHEREAS, He earned a reputation for excellence in
	leadership in his roles as chief of police for the City of
	Mercedes and as captain of the City of Harlingen Police
	Department; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Lucio was elected to his first term as Cameron
	County sheriff in 1997; he was again elected sheriff in 2004, and
	he brought great distinction to that position until he stepped
	down from office on December 31, 2020; and
	WHEREAS, Sheriff Lucio was known as a humble public
	servant, and he helped instill in local youth the importance of
	education and good citizenship; he guided a skilled staff of 365
	employees with an open-door policy, and he worked tirelessly to
	serve the citizens of Cameron County; and
	WHEREAS, A respected leader in law enforcement, Sheriff
	Lucio is a member of the National Sheriffs' Association and the
	Texas Sheriffs' Association, and he has been actively involved in
	many civic and professional organizations; he manifested
	uncommon dedication in his commitment to protect, serve, and
	lead, and he can reflect with pride on his outstanding career;
	now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
	Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize Omar Lucio for
	his years of service in law enforcement and commend him for his
	exemplary tenure as Cameron County sheriff; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
