| J. Fred Perry | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Brownwood in mourning the loss of J. Fred Perry, who | ||
| died December 27, 2016, at the age of 86; and | ||
| WHEREAS, J. Fred Perry was an exemplary civic leader and | ||
| businessman who played a vital role in the growth and prosperity | ||
| of his community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Perry grew up on a farm near Bangs and was a | ||
| graduate of Bangs High School; he earned a degree from Daniel | ||
| Baker College and served the nation with distinction in the | ||
| United States Air Force; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a cofounder of PF&E Oil Company, which | ||
| began as a small wholesaler and retailer of petroleum products | ||
| and grew to become one of the area's leading companies and to | ||
| operate the successful Food Plaza convenience stores; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Perry was active in a range of civic | ||
| organizations and received numerous awards for his contributions | ||
| to the community; a socially private, yet devout Christian who | ||
| practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of Austin | ||
| Avenue Church of Christ; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
| gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued | ||
| counsel will not be forgotten by his family and countless | ||
| friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of J. Fred Perry; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of J. Fred Perry. | ||
