SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 377
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  J. Fred Perry
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Brownwood in mourning the loss of J. Fred Perry, who
  died December 27, 2016, at the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, J. Fred Perry was an exemplary civic leader and
  businessman who played a vital role in the growth and prosperity
  of his community; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Perry grew up on a farm near Bangs and was a
  graduate of Bangs High School; he earned a degree from Daniel
  Baker College and served the nation with distinction in the
  United States Air Force; and
         WHEREAS, He was a cofounder of PF&E Oil Company, which
  began as a small wholesaler and retailer of petroleum products
  and grew to become one of the area's leading companies and to
  operate the successful Food Plaza convenience stores; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Perry was active in a range of civic
  organizations and received numerous awards for his contributions
  to the community; a socially private, yet devout Christian who
  practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of Austin
  Avenue Church of Christ; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by his family and countless
  friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of J. Fred Perry; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of J. Fred Perry.
