| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize San Antonio Pets Alive! on the occasion of its first | ||
| anniversary; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This dedicated no-kill organization was founded | ||
| in January of 2012 and incorporated with nonprofit status in | ||
| April of 2012; in one short year, the group has helped save the | ||
| lives of more than 5,900 animals and has exponentially increased | ||
| awareness among citizens that there are alternatives to pet | ||
| surrender, which often results in euthanasia; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Working in partnership with the City of San | ||
| Antonio, this laudable group functions on a grassroots level to | ||
| save dogs and cats through adoption, foster care, urgent medical | ||
| care, bottle-feeding programs, and community education; and | ||
| WHEREAS, San Antonio Pets Alive! has achieved remarkable | ||
| results; after its inception, the city shelter's save rate jumped | ||
| from 30 percent in October of 2011 to 72 percent the following | ||
| October; the group's ultimate mission is to achieve and sustain a | ||
| 90 percent save rate and to make San Antonio the largest no-kill | ||
| city in the country; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This outstanding nonprofit organization has | ||
| successfully motivated and coordinated the efforts of community | ||
| members, businesses, and volunteers to save the lives of | ||
| thousands of pets and find them safe and loving homes; it is | ||
| indeed worthy of praise and recognition for its humane efforts; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend San Antonio Pets Alive! on the | ||
| occasion of its first anniversary and extend to its staff and | ||
| volunteers sincere best wishes for further success in all their | ||
| future endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| this exceptional organization as an expression of esteem from the | ||
| Texas Senate. | ||
