SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Gloria Eneida Sarkis for 35 years of exemplary service
  to the Brownsville Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, A Brownsville native, Gloria developed a love of
  learning as a young girl while spending time in the hospital
  where both her parents worked as doctors; she graduated with
  honors from Villa Marias High School in 1983; and
         WHEREAS, Gloria stayed in her cherished hometown to continue
  her studies at Pan American University, and she earned a bachelor's
  degree in arts and sciences with a minor in bilingual education in
  1986; she began her career with the Brownsville Independent School
  District by serving as a teacher at Skinner Elementary School, and
  soon after, she was hired at Sharp Elementary School, where she
  received invaluable guidance and mentorship from some of the
  district's most respected teachers; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated educator, Gloria served as a
  bilingual teacher for many years, and she taught in both English
  and Spanish in the Gifted and Talented program; her creative
  approach to instruction helped students to excel in reading,
  social studies, language arts, and history, and her extensive
  extracurricular work included coaching art students for
  University Interscholastic League competitions; and
         WHEREAS, Gloria consistently attended statewide
  trainings, conventions, and in-service programs to stay abreast
  of the latest teaching techniques, and she brought innovative
  programs into her classrooms that helped her students develop a
  true love of learning; she reflected the highest ideals of an
  educator throughout her 35-year career, and she is indeed
  deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize Gloria Eneida
  Sarkis for her many contributions to the community and her
  exemplary career with the Brownsville Independent School
  District; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
