SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 367
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Sergio Alberto Tinoco for his commitment to public
  service and his success in the face of great adversity; and
         WHEREAS, Sergio Tinoco was born in Pharr, Texas, while his
  mother, a resident of Reynosa, Mexico, was visiting her parents;
  he spent his early years with his mother in Reynosa, and at
  the age of six, he moved to his grandparents' home in Weslaco,
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Sergio began working as a migrant farmworker at
  the young age of seven; by the age of 17, he was balancing his
  academics and two jobs during high school, yet he graduated in
  the top 10 percent of his class; and
         WHEREAS, Determined to break a family cycle of poverty and
  migrant work, Sergio joined the United States Army; he served in
  Bosnia-Herzegovina in the aftermath of the Bosnian War and earned
  numerous commendations, and he retired after 10 years of
  distinguished service; he went on to have a successful career as
  a United States Border Patrol agent, and during his tenure, he
  has carried out his duties in the face of numerous challenging
  and dangerous circumstances; and
         WHEREAS, Sergio has shared his story of perseverance in his
  award-winning book, Proud American: The Migrant, Soldier, and
  Agent; the compelling memoir chronicles his journey from a young,
  first-generation American struggling to learn English to a proud
  patriot who built a life of purpose and who found success in spite
  of a difficult background; and
         WHEREAS, Sergio Tinoco is a beloved husband and father and
  a cherished member of his community; he exemplifies the highest
  ideals of public service, and his strength and resilience will
  continue to inspire others long into the future; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
  Legislature, hereby commend Sergio Alberto Tinoco on his many
  accomplishments and congratulate him on the exceptional success
  of his memoir; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
