SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 366
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Judge Migdalia Lopez, who retired on December 31, 2018,
  from the 197th District Court after 20 years of distinguished
  service; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Lopez started her career on the bench in
  1995, when she became the first Hispanic woman to preside over
  Cameron County Court-at-Law Number 2; she had previously served
  for nearly 10 years as a Cameron County assistant district
  attorney; and
         WHEREAS, On January 1, 1999, she was sworn in as judge of
  the 197th District Court, which serves Cameron and Willacy
  Counties; during her tenure, she was noted for her fairness and
  impartiality, her thorough knowledge of the law, and her passion
  for serving the public good; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Lopez has served on a number of boards and
  commissions, including the Texas Access for Justice Commission
  and the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission; she has been active
  in her community and has focused particularly on issues affecting
  children and education; she formerly served as a member of the
  board of trustees of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent
  School District; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Lopez was named the 1996 Hispanic Woman of
  the Year by the Valley Morning Star and was the recipient of the
  Ma'at Justice Award from Women and Law Section of the State Bar of
  Texas; it is truly fitting that she receive special recognition
  for the positive impact she has had on the justice system in South
  Texas; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
  Legislature, hereby commend Judge Migdalia Lopez on her
  exceptional service on the bench of the 197th District Court and
  extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
