Tamoria Jones | ||
WHEREAS, The death of Tamoria RaShon Jones at the age of 35 | ||
has brought a profound loss to her family, her friends, and the | ||
entire Texas legislative community; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born on May 22, 1988, Tamoria Jones grew up in | ||
Freeport; she graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing | ||
from Prairie View A&M University and went on to complete a | ||
master's degree in business administration at Texas Woman's | ||
University; embarking on a career in public service, she began | ||
working in the office of State Representative Harold V. Dutton, | ||
Jr., in 2012 and rose to become chief of staff; she continued her | ||
education as well, earning her law degree magna cum laude from | ||
Texas Southern University in 2018; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Jones demonstrated exceptional skill and | ||
dedication as a committee clerk during multiple sessions, | ||
furthering the work of the House Committees on Urban Affairs, | ||
Public Education, and Juvenile Justice and Family Issues; a | ||
stalwart champion of education and literacy, she brought her | ||
characteristic enthusiasm and persistence to bear in supporting | ||
legislation to improve reading scores and effect meaningful | ||
change in other key areas; moreover, she was committed to | ||
addressing racial disparities in education outcomes and ensuring | ||
fairness in rules for charter schools; in tribute to her | ||
exceptional efforts, the TSU Thurgood Marshall School of Law is | ||
establishing a scholarship in her honor; and | ||
WHEREAS, Known to many as "T," Ms. Jones was a caring | ||
mentor to numerous staff members, and she generously shared her | ||
knowledge and expertise with anyone in need of assistance; her | ||
outgoing personality and determination to help others succeed | ||
endeared her to people of all backgrounds and across political | ||
divides; and | ||
WHEREAS, Tamoria Jones set an inspiring example through | ||
her tireless efforts in behalf of her fellow Texans, and although | ||
she will be greatly missed, she leaves behind countless friends | ||
and loved ones whose lives are far richer for having known her; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of Tamoria RaShon Jones and extend sincere condolences to all who | ||
mourn her passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Tamoria Jones. | ||
