SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 357
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Vanessa Novo on her participation and service in the
  prestigious Global Leadership Opportunities Beyond Education
  program; and
         WHEREAS, Co-sponsored by Texas 4-H and Texas A&M
  University, the Global Leadership Opportunities Beyond Education
  program teaches youth about how agricultural systems affect
  global hunger and food security and how to implement sustainable
  systems to address gaps in food accessibility across
  populations; and
         WHEREAS, Vanessa is an eighth grader from Georgetown and
  the treasurer of Liberty Hill 4-H and vice president of
  Williamson County 4-H; she was accepted in the GLOBE program and
  will travel with a group of students to the Texas A&M Soltis
  Center in Costa Rica in June; and
         WHEREAS, As part of the program, the students traveled to
  Homestead Heritage in Waco and participated in a weekend activity
  that replicated living conditions in a third-world country; the
  students slept in yurts, fetched water from a well, and cooked
  their meals outdoors to better understand the challenges faced by
  people who live in the developing world; and
         WHEREAS, A bright and capable student, Vanessa has
  organized a canned food drive to be held at her school with
  donations to be submitted in March, which is recognized as
  National Agriculture Month; her service project, called "Cans
  for Kids," encourages people to donate HEB-labeled cans marked
  with the Texas Department of Agriculture's "Go Texan" logo; and
         WHEREAS, Not only does Vanessa's project support
  sustainable agriculture and bring awareness to hunger in her
  community, it benefits Texas agricultural producers and the
  Central Texas Food Bank, thereby combatting hunger among
  children and youth, a demographic that constitutes 34 percent of
  food bank clients; Vanessa is indeed deserving of special
  recognition for her creativity and for her contributions to the
  public good; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commend Vanessa Novo on her acceptance into
  the Global Leadership Opportunities Beyond Education program and
  extend to her best wishes for continued success in her education
  and in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
