| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride | ||
| in recognizing Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., who has been selected as | ||
| the 2017 Border Texan of the Year; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since 1989, the Border Texan of the Year Committee | ||
| has annually honored individuals for their contributions, | ||
| support, and advocacy on behalf of residents of the Rio Grande | ||
| Valley and for their commitment to the betterment of South Texas | ||
| communities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For 40 years, Senator Lucio has been a voice for | ||
| the people of the Rio Grande Valley; he is being honored for his | ||
| tireless advocacy on behalf of veterans and of children with | ||
| disabilities and for spearheading legislation that has | ||
| strengthened the local economy, promoted equity in public | ||
| schools, and greatly expanded higher education opportunities in | ||
| the region; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Senator Lucio is among the longest-serving | ||
| members of the Texas Senate; he chairs the Senate Committee on | ||
| Intergovernmental Relations and serves as vice-chair of the | ||
| Senate Committee on Education; he has been honored by the | ||
| Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas for his work | ||
| aiding the families of fallen police officers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Eddie Lucio is respected by his colleagues for his | ||
| conscientious approach to legislative leadership and for working | ||
| across the aisle to ensure the best possible outcomes for all | ||
| Texans; he is indeed deserving of recognition for his success in | ||
| representing the citizens of the Rio Grande Valley and Texans | ||
| across the state; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. for his many | ||
| contributions to the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas and | ||
| congratulate him on being named the 2017 Border Texan of the | ||
| Year; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
