| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Naval Air Station-Kingsville on the occasion of its | ||
| 75th anniversary, which is being celebrated the weekend of June | ||
| 30, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Naval Air Station-Kingsville had its beginnings | ||
| in 1942 as part of the nation's military build-up following the | ||
| attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Land was purchased for the station in Kingsville | ||
| and an auxiliary air field soon opened; pilots received training | ||
| in aerial dogfighting, carrier dive bombing, and antisubmarine | ||
| warfare, along with gunnery and artillery practice; in 1969, the | ||
| auxiliary field was renamed NAS-Kingsville; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Today, NAS-Kingsville is one of the United States | ||
| Navy's top jet training facilities; it is truly fitting that this | ||
| vital military installation receive special recognition as it | ||
| reaches this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the officers, enlisted men and | ||
| women, and staff of Naval Air Station-Kingsville on their | ||
| commitment to the nation's defense and extend to them best wishes | ||
| for a memorable 75th anniversary celebration; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the station as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
