SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 341
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social
Workers and Texans across the state in celebrating March 6, 2017,
as Texas Social Work Day; and
WHEREAS, Social workers throughout the country strive to
improve the happiness, health, and prosperity of our society,
particularly for its most vulnerable members; they are the
nation's largest group of mental health care providers and work
to help people overcome such conditions as depression, anxiety,
and substance abuse disorders; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, social workers have been at the
forefront of the struggle for equal rights for all citizens; they
have also worked with individuals and organizations to improve
communities and protect the environment; and
WHEREAS, Social workers are present at every level of
society, from government institutions to schools and
universities to social service agencies to the military; they
serve on the front lines helping people to overcome the effects
of natural disasters and wars and to make a return to peace and
prosperity; and
WHEREAS, Social workers are an integral part of the fabric
of life in our state, and it is truly fitting that a day be set
aside to honor their many contributions to Texas citizens; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Chapter of the National
Association of Social Workers on its steadfast commitment to
public service and extend to its members best wishes for a
memorable Texas Social Work Day; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special occasion.
