| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the interpreters who have risked their lives to serve | ||
| as allies of the United States Armed Forces in Afghanistan; and | ||
| WHEREAS, When our nation sent its sons and daughters to | ||
| fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, it enlisted a second army to | ||
| support the fight against global terrorism; these local allies in | ||
| Afghanistan signed on to help build bases, support troops, and | ||
| perhaps most importantly, to serve as interpreters; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Interpreters serve as the cultural and linguistic | ||
| bridge that allows members of the armed forces to communicate | ||
| with locals and better understand their surroundings; and | ||
| WHEREAS, United States troops would not be able to perform | ||
| their jobs in foreign lands without the assistance of | ||
| interpreters, and many of our troops are alive today because of | ||
| their courageous service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The brave interpreters who have risked their | ||
| lives to join the global war on terrorism are indeed deserving of | ||
| special recognition for their distinguished service on behalf of | ||
| the United States Armed Forces; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all those | ||
| interpreters in Afghanistan who followed the call to fight | ||
| against terrorism and extend to them sincere gratitude for their | ||
| heroic service; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
