  In Memory
  Baltazar Salazar Sr.
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Baltazar Salazar Sr., who died
  June 23, 2016, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Baltazar Salazar was born on April 1, 1931, in
  Edinburg, Texas; he graduated from Edinburg High School in 1951,
  and he joined the United States Marine Corps later that same
  year; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Salazar was a distinguished veteran who took
  part in the historic first amphibian assault during the Korean
  War; he was honored with the Korean Service Medal with Stars and
  the Navy Commendation Medal with Honors for his acts of bravery
  during the conflict, and he extended his patriotic service for
  our country as a member of the Marine Reserves; and
         WHEREAS, After the war, Baltazar enrolled at Pan American
  University, where he was selected to join the elite Broncs
  baseball team; he graduated with bachelor's degrees in physical
  education and government, and he went on to have a fulfilling
  30-year career as a teacher, mentor, and coach; and
         WHEREAS, Baltazar shared a life of devotion with Maria
  Elena Leal, his high school sweetheart and a former Miss Rio
  Grande Valley Beauty Queen; they were married on December 23,
  1956, and they were blessed with five children, 13 grandchildren,
  and numerous great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense
  pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, Baltazar Salazar was a beloved member of his
  community; he enriched the lives of others by his kindness, his
  integrity, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
  he was a true American hero, and he leaves behind memories that
  will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his
  life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences
  to the bereaved family of Baltazar Salazar Sr.; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Baltazar Salazar.
