| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Lipan Apache Band of Texas, the Fort Clark Springs | ||
| Association, and the other participants representing Forts | ||
| Concho, Lancaster, Stockton, and McKavett on the occasion of the | ||
| historical reenactment of the Live Oak Treaty of 1838, which is | ||
| taking place at Fort Clark Springs on March 4, 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Live Oak Treaty of 1838 pledged peace and | ||
| perpetual friendship between the people of Texas and the Lipan | ||
| Apaches; signed by Republic of Texas President Sam Houston on | ||
| January 8, 1838, this pact holds a place of profound importance | ||
| among the Lipan Apache Band of Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Lipan Apache Band of Texas continues to | ||
| practice its tribal traditions; members use ceremonial dress and | ||
| music to uphold tribal customs and pay tribute to their history; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, This historical reenactment will serve to help | ||
| educate the people of Texas about the many important | ||
| contributions the Lipan Apaches have made to the rich cultural | ||
| legacy of our state; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Lipan Apache Band | ||
| of Texas for their commitment to their heritage and extend to all | ||
| participants best wishes for a memorable reenactment of the | ||
| signing of the Live Oak Treaty of 1838; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a | ||
| memento of this special occasion. | ||
