| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Officer Armando Perez of the Austin Police Department, | ||
| who was named the recipient of a Star of Texas Award; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Star of Texas Awards honor peace officers, | ||
| firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who are | ||
| seriously injured or killed while serving in the line of duty; and | ||
| WHEREAS, On April 3, 2016, Officer Perez was attempting to | ||
| apprehend a burglary suspect at an apartment complex in Austin; | ||
| during the subsequent contact and confrontation, he was severely | ||
| injured when he was shot below his body armor in the lower | ||
| abdomen; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Despite receiving a critical gunshot wound, | ||
| Officer Perez courageously drew his service weapon and was able | ||
| to return fire and kill the suspect; Officer Perez was | ||
| transported to a local hospital where he recovered from the | ||
| potentially life-threatening injuries; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Officer Perez demonstrated courage and | ||
| determination while carrying out his duties; he suffered great | ||
| hardship in the process and in the aftermath, and he is truly | ||
| deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Officer Armando Perez on his bravery | ||
| and dedication to duty and extend congratulations to him on being | ||
| honored with a Star of Texas Award; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of high esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
