SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 329
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize vocalist Carlos Cuevas, who has been named Mr. Amigo
  for 2010; and
 
         WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Mr. Amigo honoree has been
  chosen from a field of candidates of Mexican leaders and
  entertainers, whose endeavors and accomplishments are personified
  by such former winners as Angelica Vale, Cantinflas, and
  Veronica Castro; and
 
         WHEREAS, Known as the King of Bolero, Carlos Cuevas began
  his recording career in 1981 with the release of Gatita Asustada;
  fusing a Latin beat with the expression of romanticism, he has
  toured the world, performing with such artists as former Mr. Amigo,
  Armando Manzanero, and renowned tenor, Plácido Domingo; and
 
         WHEREAS, Among his best-known albums is Bolerópera, a
  blend of boleros and operatic arias; this unique combination of
  sounds and cultures broke new ground in the industry and
  solidified his place in music history; and
 
         WHEREAS, Carlos Cuevas is truly deserving of this
  prestigious honor for his many contributions to the rich cultural
  legacy of Latin America; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Carlos Cuevas on his many
  outstanding achievements and extend congratulations to him on
  being named Mr. Amigo for 2010; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
