| Corinne Roberts Ware | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Corinne Roberts Ware, | ||
| who died February 17, 2015, at the age of 82; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Corinne Ware was born on May 16, 1932, in | ||
| Brownsville; she graduated from Brownsville High School and | ||
| earned a degree from Baylor University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She left a successful career as an interior | ||
| designer at the age of 54 and enrolled at the Seminary of the | ||
| Southwest, where she lived in a dormitory with her fellow | ||
| students; she went on to earn a doctorate at Southern Baptist | ||
| Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Ware returned in 1997 to the Seminary of the | ||
| Southwest, where she helped create the master of arts program in | ||
| pastoral ministry, which was designed to include students who did | ||
| not plan to enter the clergy; her courses in ascetical theology | ||
| were foundational for master of divinity students, and she was | ||
| the author of several books that continue to guide priests and | ||
| laypersons, including Saint Benedict on the Freeway: A Rule of | ||
| Life for the 21st Century and Discover Your Spiritual Type; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She was known for her ability to relate to her | ||
| students, and she received the 2011 Durstan R. McDonald Teaching | ||
| Award; in recognition of her many contributions to the seminary, the | ||
| Corinne Ware Reading Room was dedicated in her honor in 2013; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and vision, she gave | ||
| unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel | ||
| will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in her | ||
| life; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Corinne Ware was devoted to her children and | ||
| grandchildren, and she leaves behind memories that will be | ||
| cherished forever by her family and countless friends; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Corinne Roberts Ware; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Corinne Roberts Ware. | ||
