| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Center for Transforming Lives in honor of the | ||
| organization's 115th anniversary, which was celebrated in 2022; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Previously known as the YWCA of Fort Worth and | ||
| Tarrant County, the Center for Transforming Lives was founded in | ||
| 1907 by Fort Worth women; it was the first YWCA in Texas to serve | ||
| local low-income women and offer them such services as housing, | ||
| employment support, and social activities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The center has strengthened its community and the | ||
| surrounding areas since its beginning; it was a founding member | ||
| of the local chapters of United Service Organizations, Red Cross, | ||
| and United Way, and in the 1950s, it expanded its services | ||
| throughout Fort Worth, Arlington, and Parker County; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Committed to disrupting the cycle of poverty that | ||
| affects many women and children, the center expanded its reach in | ||
| 2013 to provide support for families experiencing homelessness, | ||
| to advocate early childhood education and financial literacy, | ||
| and to offer additional resources to vulnerable families to | ||
| promote their economic mobility; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The center has acted as a safety net for more than | ||
| 3,000 women and children in Tarrant County each year since 2017; | ||
| a model of generosity of spirit and instrumental help and an | ||
| anchor for those who want to work toward a better future, the | ||
| center has done much to remedy the adverse circumstances | ||
| experienced by countless people and serves as an inspiring | ||
| example to all Texans; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the associates and supporters of the | ||
| Center for Transforming Lives on their invaluable contributions | ||
| benefiting mothers and young children in our state and extend to | ||
| all associated with the center best wishes for much continued | ||
| success in their exemplary mission; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the center as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
