| Patrick Michael Bergman | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of Patrick Michael Bergman, who died March | ||
| 5, 2021, at the age of 37; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Patrick Bergman was an exemplary citizen and a | ||
| dedicated firefighter who was widely respected and admired in his | ||
| community for his exceptional achievements and his tireless | ||
| commitment to public service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Patrick was born on December 31, 1983, in Austin, | ||
| and throughout his childhood, he dreamed of becoming a | ||
| firefighter; he became a volunteer firefighter, and after his | ||
| graduation from the Austin Community College Fire Academy, his | ||
| dream became a reality when he was hired by the Killeen Fire | ||
| Department in 2005; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished 15-year | ||
| career with the department, he carried out his duties | ||
| courageously, and he expanded his focus beyond firefighting to | ||
| undertake additional roles in community service; he became a | ||
| paramedic, earned multiple fire instructor certifications, | ||
| served on the Honor Guard, and taught at the Killeen Fire | ||
| Academy; his awards included Dispatcher of the Year in 2012 and | ||
| 2013 and Firefighter of the Year in 2015; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He recognized the unique hazards of firefighting | ||
| duty, and he became active in the Firefighter Cancer Support | ||
| Network; he was a member of Vista Community Church, where he | ||
| served on the Host team; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Patrick was a man of honor, integrity, and | ||
| determination, and he demonstrated great courage in the face of | ||
| his illness; he was a source of inspiration to his family and | ||
| friends, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured | ||
| forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Patrick Michael Bergman; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Patrick Bergman. | ||
