SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 293
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Sharon Lockhart, who is retiring as clinical
research director of the Children's Blood and Cancer Center at
Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas after a
distinguished medical career of more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lockhart is a 1982 graduate of The University
of Texas Medical School at Houston, and she began her career in
the field of pediatric oncology at the M. D. Anderson Cancer
Center in Houston; she joined the Dell Children's Medical Center
of Central Texas in 1993 as a staff pediatrician and has served as
clinical research director of the Children's Blood and Cancer
Center since 1995; and
WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the center developed a
clinical research program and became a member of the
international research organization Children's Oncology Group;
as principal investigator, she led the center's research program
in conducting clinical treatment regimens to help determine the
most effective treatments for childhood cancer; she is also a
cofounder of Specially for Children, a nonprofit pediatric
physicians group; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lockhart is known for her attention to both the
medical and psychosocial aspects of cancer patient care, and she
works to support children and families with a complete care
approach as they navigate the aftermath of a cancer diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, Widely published in numerous medical journals,
Dr. Lockhart has had a profound impact in the field of pediatric
cancer treatment and on the lives of her patients and their
families; she is truly deserving of special recognition for her
outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Sharon Lockhart on her many
contributions to her profession and her community and extend to her best
wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
