| Sue Smith | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of Sue Smith, who died February 19, 2013, | ||
| at the age of 69; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sue Smith was born July 8, 1943; she married | ||
| Harold Lee Smith in March of 1966, and the couple raised two | ||
| daughters, Dana and Keesha, who have been a source of much pride | ||
| and joy; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was the first chief of staff for | ||
| Congressman Mickey Leland and played an important role in his | ||
| success in the United States House of Representatives; she was | ||
| involved through the years with the Leland Foundation, her | ||
| daughters and her granddaughter Alex Moorer are all alumnae of | ||
| the organization, and her daughter Dana serves on its board; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her | ||
| daily life, she was a longtime member of Pilgrim Congregational | ||
| United Church of Christ; she was also active in numerous | ||
| community organizations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A woman of courage, compassion, and grace, she | ||
| gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and | ||
| enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be | ||
| forgotten; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, | ||
| and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
| her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
| 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the | ||
| bereaved family of Sue Smith; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the | ||
| Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do | ||
| so in memory of Sue Smith. | ||
