| O. J. Blakey | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of O. J. Blakey, who died January 27, 2013, | ||
| at the age of 82; and | ||
| WHEREAS, O. J. Blakey was born August 6, 1930, in Savoy; | ||
| after his 1947 graduation from Savoy High School, he earned a | ||
| bachelor's degree from East Texas State University and pursued | ||
| postgraduate studies at Midwestern State University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He served the nation with distinction as a member | ||
| of the United States Air Force in the Korean War; following his | ||
| military service, he worked for 10 years as a civilian engineer | ||
| at Shepard Air Force Base, where he focused his efforts on | ||
| projects associated with satellites and the space race; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Blakey then embarked on a 31-year career with | ||
| the company that became the Lockheed Martin Corporation; his work | ||
| on numerous weapons programs played a role in the nation's safety | ||
| and security during the Cold War; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his | ||
| daily life, Mr. Blakey was a longtime member of Tate Springs | ||
| Baptist Church, where he served as deacon chairman, trustee, | ||
| finance and drama committee member, and Sunday school and | ||
| Vacation Bible School teacher; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
| gave unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit, his love of | ||
| the outdoors, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the | ||
| fullest will not be forgotten; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
| grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured | ||
| forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of O. J. Blakey; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of O. J. Blakey. | ||
