| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Libby Averyt, who is retiring as president of the | ||
| Corpus Christi Caller-Times after more than 30 years of | ||
| outstanding service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Libby Averyt started her career at the Corpus | ||
| Christi Caller-Times in 1986 as a night reporter on the police | ||
| beat; she has gone on to hold a variety of positions in different | ||
| departments of the media organization, including executive | ||
| editor and vice president of advertising; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She is the first woman to serve as the newspaper's | ||
| chief executive, and throughout her career, she has held fast to | ||
| her belief that journalism has an important role to play in the | ||
| fabric of life in the community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She is a talented and resourceful professional | ||
| and has handled her leadership responsibilities with dedication | ||
| and an eye to keeping the community well informed about important | ||
| issues; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An exemplary journalist, she is respected and | ||
| admired by her colleagues and by the general public, and her | ||
| presence at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times will be greatly | ||
| missed; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Libby Averyt on her outstanding | ||
| service to the people of Corpus Christi as president of the | ||
| Corpus Christi Caller-Times and extend to her best wishes for | ||
| continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
