| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health on the occasion | ||
| of the foundation's 75th anniversary; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health was | ||
| established at The University of Texas at Austin in 1940 by the | ||
| children of former Texas Governor James S. Hogg; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In the early years of the foundation's history, | ||
| its staff visited communities across the state to share emerging | ||
| ideas about mental health with professional and civic groups; as | ||
| World War II developed, staff members expanded their focus to | ||
| include the needs of military members and their families; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through the years, the foundation's mission | ||
| expanded to include grant-giving, research, and policy activity, | ||
| with a particular emphasis on mental health services for children | ||
| and on the creation of a modern mental health infrastructure; | ||
| initiatives have included the establishment of the Sutherland | ||
| Chair in Mental Health and Social Policy at The University of | ||
| Texas School of Social Work and the launching of the School of the | ||
| Future project; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For 75 years, the Hogg Foundation for Mental | ||
| Health has played a vital role in serving the mental health needs | ||
| of our state; the foundation is truly deserving of recognition | ||
| for the profound impact it has had on the lives of Texans; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the Hogg Foundation for Mental | ||
| Health on its valuable contributions to mental health care in | ||
| Texas and extend best wishes to its executives and staff on the | ||
| occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this | ||
| exemplary foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas | ||
| Senate. | ||
