| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| join the citizens of Texas City in celebrating the naming | ||
| ceremony of Hines Memorial Church of God in Christ on February | ||
| 24, 2013; and | ||
| WHEREAS, LaMarque Chapel Church of God in Christ is being | ||
| renamed in honor of the late Dr. Allen J. Hines, who founded and | ||
| built the church and who played a vital role in the advancement of | ||
| the Church of God in Christ denomination; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hines received his call to the ministry in | ||
| 1950 and began an evangelistic ministry in East Texas and North | ||
| Texas; he went on to serve as chaplain for Church of God in Christ | ||
| students at his alma mater, Prairie View A&M University, and at | ||
| Texas Southern University; he also founded and built Garden of | ||
| Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in Houston; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hines organized a system of educational | ||
| institutions for the Church of God in Christ known as the Charles | ||
| Harrison Mason System of Bible Colleges; the system's Bible | ||
| colleges have had a significant impact on the growth and success | ||
| of the denomination; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He received numerous awards for his contributions | ||
| to the Church of God in Christ community, including the | ||
| International Theological Center's Distinguished Leadership | ||
| Award; it is truly fitting that the church he founded bear his | ||
| name; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. | ||
| Allen J. Hines and extend best wishes to all attending the Hines | ||
| Memorial Church of God in Christ naming ceremony; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this special occasion. | ||
