SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 247
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  honor the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and its
  dedicated volunteers for their exceptional efforts to reduce the
  occurrence of cancer in our state; and
 
         WHEREAS, In 2014, there were over 1.6 million new cancer
  cases in the United States; nearly 116,000 new cases were
  diagnosed in Texas; that same year, more than 585,000 Americans,
  including 38,000 Texans, lost their lives to the disease; and
 
         WHEREAS, Among men, prostate cancer is the most common
  diagnosis, and breast cancer is the leading diagnosis for women;
  fortunately, investment in cancer research has paid impressive
  dividends and has helped to save thousands of lives; and
 
         WHEREAS, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
  volunteers work diligently to reduce cancer rates by funding
  grassroots, lobbying, and media campaigns and advocating for
  early detection programs; they engage local communities and
  motivate leaders across the state to take proactive steps to
  fight against cancer; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend the volunteers of the American
  Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and proclaim March 4, 2015,
  American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Day at the Texas
  Capitol; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
  organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
