SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 247
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Jane Jones for her participation in the Arc of Texas'
  "Getting to the Heart of the Matter" program, which facilitates
  better understanding between lawmakers and constituents with
  intellectual and developmental disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, Jane Jones, who uses a wheelchair due to a
  neuromuscular disorder, is an advocate in every sense of the word
  and has witnessed a lifetime of experiences from many
  perspectives; and
         WHEREAS, She has become an expert on how persons with
  disabilities must on a daily basis balance their
  self-sufficiency against their reliance on programs established
  for people with disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, Jane Jones participated in the "Getting to the
  Heart of the Matter" program, which paired El Paso policymakers
  with constituents with intellectual and developmental
  disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, As part of the program, she helped guide both
  Representative Joe Moody and El Paso County Judge Veronica
  Escobar around El Paso via motorized runabout to experience the
  barriers that a person in a wheelchair faces on a daily basis; and
         WHEREAS, During her meetings with Representative Moody and
  Judge Escobar, Jane Jones opened the lawmakers' eyes to the
  dangers that people with disabilities face when venturing out in
  traffic, including dangers presented by cars blocking ramps up
  sidewalks and curb cuts in the medians; and
         WHEREAS, Representative Moody remarked, "Meeting Jane was a
  blessing in that I have learned so much, and the experience of
  riding to lunch has certainly given me a whole new perspective from
  so many different views.  It was fantastic"; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Jane Jones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
