SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 237
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Hector Farias, Sr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of Weslaco in mourning the loss of civic leader Hector Farias, Sr., who
  died September 29, 2010, at the age of 84; and
         WHEREAS, Hector Farias, Sr., was born October 20, 1925, in
  Mission; he attended Pan American University in Edinburg and
  served the nation with honor in the United States Army in the
  Korean War; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Farias worked for many years as a manager for
  the Sherwin-Williams Company in McAllen before striking out on
  his own as owner and manager of H & F Repairs, a spray equipment
  service and repair business; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his career in business, Mr. Farias
  played an important role in the civic life of Weslaco and the Rio
  Grande Valley, serving as city commissioner and mayor for the
  City of Weslaco; he was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Economic
  Development Council and served as vice chair of the East Hidalgo
  County Republican Party; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Farias served as president of the Economic
  Development Corporation of Weslaco for many years and sat on the
  Weslaco Airport Committee and the Weslaco Housing Authority; he
  was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Veterans
  Commission and was recognized by the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce
  in 2006 as the Weslaco Man of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
  many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family and friends of Hector Farias, Sr.; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Hector Farias, Sr.
