Hector Farias, Sr. | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens | ||
of Weslaco in mourning the loss of civic leader Hector Farias, Sr., who | ||
died September 29, 2010, at the age of 84; and | ||
WHEREAS, Hector Farias, Sr., was born October 20, 1925, in | ||
Mission; he attended Pan American University in Edinburg and | ||
served the nation with honor in the United States Army in the | ||
Korean War; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Farias worked for many years as a manager for | ||
the Sherwin-Williams Company in McAllen before striking out on | ||
his own as owner and manager of H & F Repairs, a spray equipment | ||
service and repair business; and | ||
WHEREAS, In addition to his career in business, Mr. Farias | ||
played an important role in the civic life of Weslaco and the Rio | ||
Grande Valley, serving as city commissioner and mayor for the | ||
City of Weslaco; he was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Economic | ||
Development Council and served as vice chair of the East Hidalgo | ||
County Republican Party; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Farias served as president of the Economic | ||
Development Corporation of Weslaco for many years and sat on the | ||
Weslaco Airport Committee and the Weslaco Housing Authority; he | ||
was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Veterans | ||
Commission and was recognized by the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce | ||
in 2006 as the Weslaco Man of the Year; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued | ||
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves | ||
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and | ||
many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family and friends of Hector Farias, Sr.; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, | ||
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of | ||
Hector Farias, Sr. | ||
