| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| join the Texas Partnership for Out of School Time and Texans | ||
| across the state in celebrating January 23, 2017, as Expanded | ||
| Learning Opportunities Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time is a | ||
| statewide network of nonprofit, public, and private sector | ||
| groups dedicated to providing students with a wide selection of | ||
| before-school, after-school, and summer break activities; its | ||
| providers include such nationally recognized organizations as | ||
| the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and 4-H, as well as municipal | ||
| programs and faith-based organizations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Expanded Learning Opportunities initiatives give | ||
| young people a safe and supportive environment in which they can | ||
| engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics | ||
| education, the performing and fine arts, health and nutrition | ||
| programs, physical activity, and character building; these | ||
| activities have been shown to improve grades, test scores, | ||
| attendance, behavior, and grade promotion; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Expanded Learning Opportunities programs have | ||
| helped countless young Texans aspire to the highest levels of | ||
| personal development and have enhanced the quality of life in | ||
| communities across the state, and those who devote their time and | ||
| energy to helping young people achieve their goals are truly | ||
| deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend all those participating in Expanded | ||
| Learning Opportunities Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this special occasion. | ||
