| WHEREAS, Tom McCool retired as sheriff of Harrison County | ||
| on December 31, 2020, drawing to a close an outstanding career in | ||
| public service that has spanned nearly a half century; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Raised in Athens, Texas, Tom McCool was hired as a | ||
| game warden for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Gregg | ||
| County in 1972; he soon transferred to Marshall, and he spent | ||
| almost 29 years as a game warden for Harrison, Gregg, and Marion | ||
| Counties; and | ||
| WHEREAS, After retiring from TPWD, Mr. McCool was elected | ||
| as the sheriff of Harrison County, and during his exemplary | ||
| two-decade tenure in office, he earned the respect and admiration | ||
| of both his fellow citizens and his fellow public officials for | ||
| his dedication, integrity, and professionalism; he helped | ||
| improve the training and update the equipment for the sheriff's | ||
| office, and he also played a vital role in the planning and | ||
| construction of the new, $6.9 million, 200-bed county jail annex; | ||
| moreover, he was an inspiring leader and mentor to many in the | ||
| field of law enforcement; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sheriff McCool has enjoyed | ||
| the love and support of his wife, Linda; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of his 49 years in public service, | ||
| Tom McCool has contributed immeasurably to the well-being of his | ||
| fellow Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career | ||
| well spent as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his | ||
| life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, hereby congratulate Sheriff Tom McCool on his | ||
| retirement and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for Sheriff McCool as an expression of high regard from | ||
| the Texas Senate. | ||
